Genesee Park Supervisor receives promotion to Deputy Highway Superintendent.
Paul Osborn, the county’s park supervisor will become deputy superintendent of the County Highway Department under a budget amendment resolution recommended for approval by the Public Service Committee on Monday.
Osborne will be responsible for both the county’s parks and for maintenance of all county buildings in his new role.
The county’s supervisor of buildings and grounds, Terry Ross, is retiring and that position is being eliminated from the budget, however a new senior building maintenance mechanic part-time position is being created which will be filled by Ross.
The annual salary for Osborn as new deputy highway superintendent will be $74,000 effective Jan. 28.

Alabama accident leads to DWI arrest for a Batavia man.
64 year old James Dagger of Batavia Elba Townline Road was arrested following a motor vehicle accident on Alleghany Road in Alabama yesterday afternoon.
He had allegedly failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign in the crash.
Daggar was reportedly the only one hurt and was taken to UMMC for minor injuries.
He was charged with DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation,
Driving without a license and refusing to take a breath test.
Daggar was released with appearance tickets for Alabama Town Court in February.

A Batavia high school student arrested for incident of harassment at school.
City Police report the arrest of a 17 year old male student in Batavia following investigation into an alleged incident at the high school Monday afternoon.
The unnamed student was accused of having unwanted physical contact against a staff member and was charged with Harassment.
They were given an appearance ticket for January 22nd in City Court.

Two jailed on bench warrants in Batavia.
59 year old Ronnie Flinchum of Mill Street LeRoy was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear on an assault charge and was remanded to the County Jail in lieu of o$1,000 dollars bail.
43 year old Mehmaet Dilek of Rochester was also arrested on a bench warrant out of Batavia City Court for failing to appear.
He was jailed in lieu of bail and is expected to appear in court this afternoon.

Governor Cuomo has laid out his 2019 budget proposal.
During yesterday’s speech at the Empire State Plaza, he highlighted several key issues including marijuana legalization, banning single-use plastic bags, expanding the bottle bill, more money for schools and health care.
The address also served as Cuomo’s State of the State.
The governor likely won’t have much resistance to his agenda since Democrats have control of the state Legislature.

The state Legislature has passed a bill protecting transgender New Yorkers.
The Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act means they can’t be discriminated against when it comes to things like employment, education or housing.
The Senate and Assembly also approved legislation banning the practice of conversion therapy.
Governor Cuomo has said he’ll sign both pieces of legislation.
