Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
New York’s junior Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is vowing to fight the institutions of power while announcing her run for president in 2020. Flanked by her husband, two sons, and mother, Gillibrand spoke of her belief that health care is a right, that special interests have corrupted Washington, and that institutional racism plagues the country. She accused President Trump of tearing the nation’s moral fabric apart along racial lines, and promised to build on past progressive achievements if she were to win the presidency:
Senator Gillibrand made the point of noting she won’t take any political action committee money or money from federal lobbyists, citing her belief that such contributions silence the voice of the people.
The state Legislature has passed a bill protecting transgender New Yorkers. The law means they cannot be discriminated against when it comes to things like employment, education or housing.
The Senate and Assembly also approved legislation banning the practice of conversion therapy.
Governor Cuomo has said he’ll sign both pieces of legislation.
A Genesee County Legislature committee is recommending a promotion for County Parks Supervisor Paul Osborn.
The Public Service Committee wants to name Osborn to the newly created post of deputy highway superintendent.
In this new role, Osborn will be responsible for the county parks and for maintenance of all county buildings.
For that, Osborn will be paid 72-thosuand dollars a year.
Republicans in Elba and Oakfield are looking for a few good people for run for office.
In Oakfield, the GOP is looking for candidates for Highway Superintendent, Town Clerk, town council and county legislator.
These seats will be decided in November.
In the Village of Elba the GOP is looking for candidates to run for village trustee.
The election for village government is March 19th.

The National Weather Service has issued an early Winter Storm Watch for this weekend.
The Watch takes effect on Saturday afternoon and remains in effect until Monday afternoon.
The Watch extends to all of Western New York, including Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties.
Snow accumulations of 7-inches or more are possible along with gusty winds producing blowing and drifting snow.
