Waiting for the snow, perhaps the biggest snowfall of the season – so far.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Western New York from one o’clock tomorrow afternoon ending at 6pm on Sunday.
The warning includes Genesee, Wyoming and Orleans counties.
Heavy and blowing snow is expected accumulation in some areas from a foot to 18 inches. The weather service says travel could be difficult to impossible. The worst of the snowfall is expected Saturday evening through late Sunday morning.
We have two early cancellations to report due to the impending storm:
All school activities in the Batavia City Schools tomorrow and Sunday have been cancelled.
Genesee Valley BOCES will close at 3pm on Saturday, January 19 and remain closed on Sunday, January 20.

Elderly Albion couple listed in guarded condition following an Albion House Fire. 81 year old Vincenzo Spampanato, and his 72 year old wife Felicia suffered severe burns in an explosion and fire in Elmwood Ave home in Albion Wednesday evening.
Vincenzo was working on a gas heater when the gas ignited and started the fire. Both victims are in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.
Governor Cuomo is joining other leaders to demand the Trump administration make unemployment benefits available to unpaid federal workers who have remained on the job during the partial government shutdown.
Cuomo issued a joint statement with the Governors of Washington and Michigan noting they have provided unemployment benefits to furloughed federal workers and their families in their states, but current federal regulations are preventing states from providing the same assistance to federal workers on the job not being paid. Cuomo called the disparity patently unfair.
There seems to be no end in sight for the spread of the flu. According to the New York State Department of Health, there have been 16-thousand confirmed cases of the virus this season. In the past week, 60 counties have reported positive flu test results. Doctors say this should serve as another reminder that it’s never too late to get your flu shot.
