Several closures continue as calmer weather returns.
The Winter Storm warning issued by the National Weather Service has expired and the heavy snowfall hitting the region has passed however a Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for Genesee and Wyoming Counties’ until 11 o’clock this morning.
Forecasters are calling for very cold wind chills as low 25 below zero.
Regardless of the improving weather conditions Batavia City Schools remain closed for today along with St. Josephs School in Batavia and Premier Genesee Adult Daycare.

Officials in Genesee County have lifted the Travel Advisory and state of emergency for the county however motorists are still encouraged to drive with caution due to blowing and drifting snow.

This Wednesday’s massive crash on the Thruway that injured three has ended with tickets for two tractor-trailer drivers.
After allegedly causing a 19 vehicle pile-up Wednesday near LeRoy a truck driver from Fort Worth, Texas and another from Hartford, Connecticut have been charged with violating traffic law.
One of the truck drivers apparently lost control and began to jackknife leading to the large accident, according to State Police,
There was a ban on tractor-trailer traffic on the Thruway at the time.
The ban was lifted late yesterday afternoon.
New York State Trooper Dominique Wilson, and two others were reportedly injured in the crash.
All three are expected to be OK.

Feedback is flooding in for Assemblyman Steve Hawley after suggesting New York State should go through a break up.
Hawley is looking to pose the question about breaking the state into two parts to residents statewide through legislation…

It’s not the first time Hawley has proposed the idea however in it’s most recent incarnation the discussion has been spurred on by a string of controversial legislation expanding abortion, free college for illegal aliens and stricter gun control.

Deputies bust a Batavia man for Felony DWI.
38 year old Brendan Curry of Batavia-Elba Townline Road was arrested after Genesee County Deputies were called to investigate a vehicle off the roadway on State Street Road in Batavia shortly after one o’clock this morning.
Curry was taken into custody on a felony count of DWI for having a previous offense within the past 10 years along with refusing to take a breath test.
He was released under supervision of Genesee Justice and is scheduled to return to Batavia Town Court on February 25th.

State Police are cracking down on drunk driving for Super Bowl weekend.
Their STOP-DWI campaign will be in effect from tomorrow until Monday morning.
Police are asking everyone to make sure they have a safe ride home after watching the big game Sunday night.
Last year’s Super Bowl campaign led to more than 100 arrests and 77-hundred tickets.
