Parolee picked up for a gas station robbery in the City.
A Batavia man already on parole for a prior robbery is now accused of robbing the Speedway gas station on West Main Street.
According to Batavia Police the Speedway was robbed just before 10 Tuesday night.
Police have arrested 37 year old Daryl Leach of State Street in the incident.
Leach was taken into custody at a home on Swamp Road in Bergen.
Police did not report any injuries in the heist and say that Leach made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
Leach was on parole until 2023 for a prior robbery with assault and had just been released from prison last July.
Electrical issues lead to fire in Attica.
A house fire was reported at a Washington Street address in the Village of Attica yesterday afternoon just before 4:30 p.m.
In total seven fire companies responded.
The six residents made it out of the apartment house without any injuries reported and all six were being assisted by the Red Cross.
The home is considered a total loss with $85,000 in estimated damages.
Investigators identified an overheated extension cord plugged into a space heater as the source of the blaze.
As recreational marijuana appears to be an eventual reality in New York Counties across the State are seeking to increase the Governor’s proposed local marijuana tax.
The New York State Association of Counties says the Governor’s proposed 2% local sales tax is not enough and are asking for the local sales tax for pot to be increased to 4%.
They say county costs associated with legalization of recreational pot would be offset from the increase in revenue.
The state budget is due in a few weeks, and Assembly Republicans know what they want to be included.
GOP members are calling for a two-percent property tax cap to be permanent.
They’d also like to provide living wages for direct-care workers.
Lawmakers also want small businesses to get a boost and an initiative put in place to help lower student debt.
The end of the state’s fiscal year is March 31st.
The Buffalo Bills are hiring for a rather unique position.
The team is looking for someone to become the next Billy Buffalo mascot.
Whoever gets hired will have to don the costume and pump fans up before home games at New Era Field and represent the team during select events.
The deadline to apply is March 5th.
