Genesee County’s overall health ranking is in the lower third of the 62 counties in New York State.
Figures released this week by the health department show that smoking is a factor. Genesee County records 20-percent of adults smoke, compared to a state average of 14-percent.
Genesee County’s obesity rate is 10-percent higher than the state average and we have 30-percent less access to exercise.
It’s not all bad news: in social and economic factors the number of children in poverty is 5-percent less than the rest of the state and the county high school graduation rate is 91-percent compared to the state average of 82-percent.

Governor Cuomo is waving the white flag on getting marijuana into the upcoming budget.
Cuomo has not been optimistic about getting the legalization of marijuana passed in time for the budget and now he says he’s dropping his proposal. Cuomo was hoping to use some of the tax revenue from marijuana sales to help plug a three billion dollar budget deficit.

Lottery fever is hitting the tri-state with the Powerball jackpot climbing to $550-million dollars for tonight’s drawing. No one picked all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing. It’s the eighth largest Powerball drawing

The New York State Amateur Hockey Association will be holding a hearing after video of a player being taunted went viral. Footage from the January game involving the Cheektowaga Warriors 18-and-under hockey team showed an African American player on the opposing team being harassed with racial slurs. Two Cheektowaga players and an assistant coach have been suspended.
