Press Release:

Cougars Sweep Red Barons

CORNING, NY – The Genesee Community College baseball team came out and swept the Corning Community College Red Barons 15-3 and 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Genesee now sits at .500 in NJCAA Region III action.

Jakob MacLeod led the Cougars bats in both contests as he collected five hits and was a single away from hitting for the cycle. The Toronto, Ontario native wears number 2, like his favorite player Derek Jeter did for the New York Yankees. In the first game, GCC led 1-0 in the third when MacLeod’s bat came alive, as he doubled in the fourth, tripled in the fifth then crushed a solo home run to start the sixth. In the seventh, MacLeod needed a single for the cycle but worked a walk on four pitches. He finished the first game 3-for-4 with four runs and 4 RBI’s and in game two went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI’s.
“I tried to be aggressive at the plate and looked for fastballs early in the count,” said MacLeod. “When I had a chance at the cycle I was just thinking to get a good swing on a pitch, but I didn’t see one.”

In the first game, Parker Cole (Bolivar-Richburg) picked up the win throwing five innings striking out six and gave up two hits. Tyler Prospero (Batavia Notre Dame) threw two innings striking out three.
In the second game, Colin Noeth (Byron-Bergen) went five innings for the win, striking out five and one walk in just 62 pitches. Jonathon Toro (Aruba) tossed a scoreless sixth and Ryan Voss (Barker) closed the game with a scoreless seventh and a strikeout.

“Our pitchers had a great day, they spotted pitches and went after batters,” said Genesee head coach Skip Sherman. “Parker Cole threw a first-pitch strike to the first nine batters of the game and he was carrying a no-hitter into the third when it was a one-run game and our hitters came alive. Our pitching staff gives us a chance to win every game.”

At the plate for GCC (11-7), Franklin Santiago went 6-for-8 with a double, 3 RBI’s and four stolen bases, Eliel Martinez had four hits, 2 RBI’s and stole three bases and Jordi Agosto (East) had four hits, 2 RBI’s, scored twice and stole two bases. Also, for the Cougars, Deion Rosalio had five hits, doubled and drove in three runs, Rodolfo Rodriguez had a 2 RBI double and three hits and Christian Torres had a RBI double, scored and stole a base.

The Cougars (11-7) and Red Barons (3-9) battle again on Thursday in Genesee’s home opener for a doubleheader at 2pm and 4pm.
