Batavia man pleads guilty to viewing child porn at the local library.
After being accused of viewing images of child porn on a computer at the Richmond Memorial Library in Batavia, 55 year old Robert Roy Richmond has pleaded guilty in federal court to access with intent to view child pornography.
Richmond was observed by staff at the public library in January of 2017 viewing a pornographic image of a child on a library computer.
The computer was seized by law enforcement after Richmond he had left the library, and investigators discovered seven child porn images on the device following a forensic examination.
He is now looking at up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the charge.
His sentencing is scheduled for August 27th.
Child Endangerment charges land a Pavilion man in lock up.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25 year old Brandon Matteson of Ellicott Street Road Pavilion after being called to a domestic incident at his address.
Matteson was jailed in lieu of bail on charges of Second degree Harassment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
He is expected to reappear on May 7th in Pavilion Town Court.
Hawley thanks Cuomo for Gold Star Families Scholarship expansion.
Governor Cuomo is broadening the interpretation of educational scholarships for military families.
Under the new directive, college tuition and related costs will be covered for all children and spouses of members of the U.S. military who die, are lost or become disabled while serving.
Cuomo said he wants to make sure that Gold Star families have the support they need when it comes to high-quality education.
The MERIT scholarship was created in 2003, just after the start of the Iraq War.
Assemblyman Steve Hawley of Batavia who led the statewide bipartisan effort thanked the governor for doing “the right thing”.
The New York court system is looking to cut back on the power of federal immigration officials to arrest immigrants in state courthouses without a warrant.
The new rules put out Wednesday require ICE agents to show a federal judicial warrant to a state judge or court attorney before an arrest.
Before now, agents have depended largely on warrants issued by ICE itself rather than by a judge.
Critics of the arrests say they discourage immigrants from reporting crimes.
The NFL has released the 2019 regular season schedule for the Buffalo Bills.
The team will play its first two games on the road against the New York Jets and New York Giants.
Their home opener will be on September 22nd against the Cincinnati Bengals.
And for the first time since 1994, the Bills will play on Thanksgiving when they travel to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
