Governor Cuomo is signing off on legislation this Earth Day that bans the sale of single-use plastic bags in New York.
The ban will go into effect starting in March of 2020.
Counties or cities will also be permitted to charge a five-cent fee for single-use paper bags.
Cuomo says New York joins California and Hawaii as the only states where single-use plastic bags are banned.

A Batavia woman facing a charge of attempted Grand Larceny.
29 year old Kayla Twardowski of Spencer Court is accused of depositing two fraudulent checks into her bank.
Those checks totaled over $3,000.
Twardowski was issued a court appearance ticket.

A National Trade Association office for a Genesee County public servant.
Highway Superintendent Tim Hens has been installed as President of the National Association of County Engineers.
Hens will serve in the post until next April.
The association represents more than 2,400 highway officials in the U.S. and Canada.

Western New York drivers are digging deeper into their wallets to pay for gas.
According to Triple A, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas is now $2.82 That’s a 3-cent increase in the last week and a 14-cent jump in the last month.
Gas Buddy-dot-com reports today the average price of a gallon of regular in Batavia is $2.80.

It looks like the worst of the flu season may finally be over. The latest data from the state health department shows there were only 33-hundred new cases of the virus reported during the week ending April 13th. That’s a nearly 26 percent drop from the week before.
