A State of Emergency has been declared along the Lake Ontario shore.
Lake levels are rising and rapidly approaching the levels that caused widespread damage two years ago.
The Orleans County Emergency Management Office issued the declaration in order to take preparedness measures.
The lake level is expected to rise into the late spring but officials say there is no immediate public safety threat..
State Police based in Batavia have arrested An Albion Correctional officer on multiple counts of sexual abuse.
26 year old David Stupnick of Medina is accused of having inappropriate sexual relations with two female inmates at Albion Correctional.
Stupnick was released with Appearance Tickets for Albion Town Court next month.
New York senior Senator Chuck Schumer is using prom and wedding season to push for federal rules for the limo industry.
Right now there is very little that governs what safety devices go into a limousine.
Schumer is also calling for all stretch limousines to be classified as commercial vehicles, requiring limo drivers to carry a commercial driver’s license and undergo extensive training. The October 2018 limo crash in Schoharie, New York that killed 20 has the Senator and some of the victim families demanding the NTSB come up with standards that govern all stretch limousines.
Gas prices are falling slightly Western New York. According to Triple A, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas is $2.88. That’s down a penny from last week, but is a seven cent rise in the past month. The state average is sitting at $2.95, while nationally it’s $2.85
The community has now been officially invited to join in the Batavia Memorial Day parade.
The parade takes place on Monday, May 27th, a week from today. The parade begins at 9:45 Monday morning at the Eastown Plaza and ends at the Alva Place Parking lot.
City Councilman Bob Bialkowski is again organizing the parade.
