Deadline approaches to register for upcoming primaries.
As the June 25th primary quickly approaches the last day to register as a voter in person is even closer with a deadline of May 31st.
Mail registration forms must be received by the Board of Elections by June 5th with a postmark of May 31st.
The primary for Batavia City Court judge is heating up between Benjamin Bonarigo and Durin Rogers who are seeking the Republican, Conservative and Independence Party line.
Part-time City Court Judge Durin Rogers just recently announced endorsements from Genesee Justice coordinator Catherine Uhly and her predecessor Ed Minardo.
GOP Primaries for Town Clerk will be held in Alexander and Bergen, Republican primaries for Town Justice in Bethany and Pembroke along with a Conservative Party primary for Byron Highway Superintendent.

Batavia Man receives probation and weekends for sex crimes against a child.
36 year old David Somerton of Kelsey road in Batavia appeared in Genesee County Court this week for sentencing on a count of attempted use of a child in a sexual performance.
Somerton pleaded guilty to the count in March after initially being charged with 5 felony counts of disseminating indecent material to a minor, possession of obscene sexual performance by a child, and use of a child in a sexual performance.
Somerton was arrested in November of last year following investigation into sex offenses against a 13 year old.
He avoided a potential 2-7 years with the plea and was sentenced to 10 years’ probation with four months of weekends in jail.
Somerton will also have to register as a sex offender.

Walnut Street resident accused of a string of burglaries in Batavia.
20 year old Teesean Ayala has been arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies on three counts of Burglary, and five counts of Grand Larceny following investigation into a series of burglaries in the Towns of Batavia and Stafford last fall.
Ayala was arraigned in Batavia Town Court and remains in custody in the Genesee County Jail on unrelated charges.

An Illegal Alien sentenced for illegal gun possession out of Orleans County.
A native of Mexico living in Lyndonville, convicted of being an alien in possession of a firearm, was sentenced to serve 30 months in prison.
The native of Mexico with no lawful status in the US was arrested following a search of his residence on Alps Road in Lyndonville in March of last year where Task Force and ICE officers, recovered two 20 gauge shotguns; a rifle; a .22 caliber revolver; 207 rounds of ammunition; shotgun slugs; and 15 rounds of shotgun shells.
Investigators also recovered a counterfeit Social Security card and a fraudulent Permanent Resident Card in the defendant’s name.

There’s some great news to report on the health of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly.
His wife says the Hall of Famer’s recent scans have come back clear and he remains cancer free.
Kelly has been battling oral cancer in recent years. He has said since his diagnosis that he refuses to let the disease get the best of him.
