Batavia man pleads guilty to gun charge in federal court.
40 year old Charles Williams of Batavia faces a possible 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in federal court yesterday.
In July of 2017, after being stopped by Genesee County Sheriffs Drug Task Force Officers, Williams was apprehended on an active arrest warrant.
As officers searched his vehicle, they discovered on the front passenger seat a black nylon bag, which contained a loaded handgun along with a cigarette box concealing two small plastic bags containing cocaine.
Williams was prohibited from possessing the weapon as he had already spent two and half years behind bars on a drug possession conviction.
Williams is scheduled for sentencing on August 29th.
Hawley requests shoreline funding from Governor Cuomo and asks for President Trump to renegotiate Plan 2014.
Following another tour of the flooding along much of Lake Ontario’s shoreline Tuesday, Assemblyman Steve Hawley of Batavia has joined a delegation of assembly members in writing to Gov. Cuomo asking for a relief package to be implemented before the end of session.
Hawley noted that the lake levels are a foot and a half higher than they were this time last year and urged the governor to act now to secure a relief package for homeowners and businesses.
Hawley also asked President Trump to renegotiate Plan 2014 that many believe is the root cause of much of the lake’s flooding.
The treaty was originally signed into law by President Obama only a short time before he left office.
New dean appointment announced at GCC.
The Genesee Community College has announced that Elba resident Timothy Tomczak has officially been appointed as the College’s Dean of Human Communications and Behavior effective July 1.
Tomczak’s history with GCC began in 1987 and is full of honors.
He is a three-time SUNY Chancellor Award honoree and as recent as last year, Tomczak received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service.
The Niagara County man accused of running over his ex-wife with a truck has been caught.
Niagara County deputies and the U.S. Marshal Service brought 40 year old Shane Hescox into custody yesterday in Rochester.
Before his capture, law enforcement officials alerted local residents that he may have been hiding in either Batavia or Albion as he had known ties to the area.
Police say Hescox ran his ex-wife over several times back on May 17th in Wheatfield.
The victim is still recovering from serious injuries.
A new bill has been introduced at the state Capitol that would protect pets from extreme weather conditions.
The legislation would require them to be brought indoors if the state issues warnings involving hot or cold temperatures.
Anyone caught breaking the law would face a $500 fine for the first offense. Repeat violations could lead to the animal being seized.
The proposal would also create an alert system letting pet owners know when it’s not safe to have their animals outside.
