Western New York and the nation heard today from Batavian David Bellavia for the first time since the White House announced he will receive the Medal of Honor.
Bellavia was awarded the Silver Star for action during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His Silver Star has now been elevated to the military’s highest honor.
This morning, Bellavia said he was humbled by the support he has received from residents of Western New York
Bellavia will receive the Medal of Honor during a white House ceremony on June 25th.
The Department of Defense has released a video today of Bellavia describing the action in Fallujah that led to his nomination.

The Batavia City Council has given its approval to a local Pride Month parade and picnic in support of the LBGTQ community.
The local group holding the event is called, Go Out and is led by Go Art Executive Director Gregory Hallock.
The parade is scheduled for June 28th from 6:30 until 10 starting at Austin Park and ending near the Go Art Building on Bank Street.
The permit for the parade was approved unanimously by council.
Governor Cuomo says he would like to run for a fourth term, but a new poll finds New Yorkers don’t want him staying around that long. The Siena College survey found 58 percent of New Yorkers don’t want Cuomo back in the governor’s mansion. Thirty-seven percent polled would be okay with a Cuomo fourth term.
The next governor’s race is still three years away.
