Illegal immigrant in Warsaw takes plea deal on drug and immigration charges.
27 year old Giovani Ramirez-Soto, a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to possession and distribution of one kilogram or more of heroin.
Soto also pled guilty to being a removed alien unlawfully found in United States.
State Police stopped a vehicle with Alabama plates driving on Route 20A in the Town of Warsaw in July of last year.
The trooper approached the vehicle, which was being driven by co-defendant Humberto Martinez-Vega with Ramirez-Soto as a passenger.
Martinez-Vega gave the trooper an expired Georgia identification card, and told the trooper he was looking for work.
A subsequent search of the vehicle recovered 1,200 grams of suspected heroin, and approximately 421 grams of suspected methamphetamine hidden behind the front dashboard of the vehicle.
Further investigation determined that the defendants were illegally present in the United States.
Charges remain pending against Martinez-Vega.
Soto is looking at a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $10,000,000 fine when he is sentenced on September 25th.
Police identify suspicious man who approached young girls in LeRoy.
According to LeRoy PD, no charges will be filed against 31 year old Kenneth Stasiw of Gates in a case where he allegedly asked a couple of school aged girls to take photos of their piercings in LeRoy.
Stasiw is said to have approached two girls near Wolcott School last Saturday and the incident appears to be an error in judgment on his part however nothing that warrants criminal charges according to investigators.
He was apparently developing a portfolio of piercing photos and was in LeRoy to photograph the replica of the Statue of Liberty and the Oatka Creek.
He was fully cooperative with police and allowed investigators to examine all of the electronic devices along with his websites and other electronic data and no concerning photos or other data were found.
The LeRoy Central School District has been thoroughly briefed on the investigation according to LeRoy PD.
Congressman Chris Collins Recognizes Batavia Man as His ‘Veteran of the Month’.
Congressman Chris Collins recognized U.S. Army Air Corps Technical Sergeant Ronald R. “Cappy” Cappiello of Batavia, as his office’s ‘Veteran of the Month’ at the Muckdogs home opener Friday night.
Mr. Cappiello threw out the first pitch at Dwyer Stadium to kick off the Muckdogs 80th season with their game against the Auburn Doubledays.
Collins presented Mr. Cappiello with an American Flag that was flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. and a Congressional Certificate of Commendation.
Batavia came out with a two-to-nothing win over the Doubledays and host the team again Saturday night.

A new home for the local Boy Scouts Council has apparently been found.
They are about to purchase a building on S. Main Street in Oakfield most recently occupied by a consignment shop, All About You’sd.
The site will become home to the Iroquois Trail Council which has been located in the Go-Art building downtown.
