New top dog in Genesee County Law Enforcement.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Frankie, and his handler Deputy Christopher Erion have just graduated from the Niagara Regional Police Service K-9 Academy.
The three-month course that takes place at the Academy in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, covered training in the areas of building and open area searches, obedience, tracking, drug detection, and handler protection.
Frankie is a 2 ½-year-old Belgian Malinois from Holland and was named in honor of deceased Deputy Frank Bordonaro.
Sheriff William Sheron said his office sincerely appreciates the overwhelming support from the public and thanks all those that generously contributed to the K-9 fund.
Water interruption on Vine Street in Batavia.
City Hall announced that water will be turned off on Vine Street from North Street to Evergreen Drive starting at 9 this morning.
The project involves work at John Kennedy School. No word on how long the water will be off.
Residents are advised that when service is restored, water could be temporarily discolored.
A Medina man facing charges for allegedly striking a woman in the face in front of a group of children at a trailer park along East Main Street Road.
34 year old Johnathan Taylor of Medina was charged with Harassment and Child Endangerment.
Police say the woman was struck so hard, she fell to the ground.
Taylor was released on his own recognizance pending a court date next month.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered flags on state government buildings to be flown at half-staff today, in honor of a Trumansburg, New York Soldier who died as a result of injuries sustained in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan on June 25th.
He was 24 years old.
Sgt. James G. Johnston was assigned to the 79th Ordnance Battalion (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), a part of the 71st Ordnance Group at Fort Hood, Texas.
Sgt. Johnston was one of two Soldiers who died of wounds sustained from small arms fire during combat operations.
Travel Advisory for the Town of Batavia.
According to the Assistant Town Engineer for the Town of Batavia Tom Lichtenthal, Route 5 between 665 E. Main St. and 5022 E. Main St. Rd will be reduced to one lane of traffic in the westbound direction from July 10th thru August 7th.
The reduction will be to allow for the construction of a center pedestrian refuge island as part of the Ellicott Trial Project.
