Programs are popping up and dropping off locally to beat the heat as an Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect this weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for counties including Genesee and Wyoming, from noon today through early Saturday evening.
Heat index values locally could reach up to 100 during the day.
The Weather Service out of Buffalo has elevated the Heat Watch across Orleans, Monroe and Livingston counties to an Excessive Heat Warning, also in effect from noon until tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Highs of up to 108 degrees are expected in spots both days.

Due to the extreme temperatures locally, the Ricky Palermo annual soccer clinic scheduled for today is canceled and will be postponed until next Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Batavia Sports Park.
Also the City of Batavia Summer Recreation Program will be closed today to resume as scheduled Monday.
The Youth Center at 12 MacArthur Drive will remain open from 1 to 6 p.m. for children ages 10 through 16.

Governor Cuomo is urging New Yorkers to prepare for the extreme heat this weekend.
The high temperatures and increased humidity could be dangerous for at-risk populations, particularly the elderly and small children.
The governor says state park swimming pools will have extended hours this weekend and cooling stations will be available across the Empire State.

Darien Lake is allowing concertgoers to bring water to the amphitheatre.
If you’re heading to a concert at Darien Lake this weekend, you’ll be able to bring water into the venue.
Officials say the only condition is those bottles have to be factory-sealed.
Thomas Rhett will take the stage tonight, followed by 311 and Dirty Heads Saturday.
Live Nation says there will also be free water stations around the venue.

A semi-truck has come off the Thruway and over turned this morning, landing on Route 5 in Pembroke.
One person was reportedly pinned by the trailer and Mercy Flight is requested to the scene at around quarter after 4 this morning.
With no guardrail on the bridge in place emergency units were parking on the side of the road.
Alternate routes are suggested to avoid potential delays.

Ten people busted at Blink 182 concert.
Blink 182 and Lil’ Wayne performed at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center Wednesday evening where the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reportedly arrested five individuals for Trespassing and four for Unlawful possession of pot.
A resident of Opa Locka, Florida was also taken into custody for Harassment after allegedly harassing a Darien lake Employee after the concert.

Today veterans can get $20 in checks to buy farm-fresh produce from vendors at the Downtown Batavia Public Market.
From 9 a.m. to noon Friday, a representative from the Batavia VA will give out FreshConnect checks on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The checks are part of Governor Cuomo’s “New York FreshConnect Farmers’ Markets” program.
The checks also help farmers in the community by increasing the sale of locally grown food.
The market is excited to give back to veterans for their service.
