Homecoming ceremony honors a local War Hero.
Medal of Honor recipient, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia has been honored by his hometown.
Bellavia was met by a brass band and a crowd of around 200 community members outside City Hall where he was given the key to the City of Batavia during a ceremony yesterday afternoon.
Bellavia thanked his family and community for their support and shared a message stressing the importance of service to young families…

The Staff Sergeant and his family were greeted by local politicians, area veterans and media and he patiently greeted all those coming to see him.
He was given the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the Iraq War at a White House ceremony last month with President Trump.
Bellavia is credited for helping save his platoon after the men had become trapped while clearing buildings in Fallujah back in 2004.

A Greece resident busted with multiple drugs in a Byron traffic stop.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Byron Holley Road yesterday afternoon after a distracted driver reportedly ran a stop sign.
The driver was identified as 26 year old Rachael Ezzezew of Bronze Leaf Trail Greece and was allegedly in possession of marijuana and two different types of controlled substances.
Deputies also discovered her license had been suspended and Ezzezew was taken into custody on two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Pot.
She is expected back in Byron Town Court on August 13th.

The man accused of murdering a mother and her son is in the process of negotiating a plea deal on federal charges.
Paperwork filed yesterday by Alberto Reyes’ attorney says he’ll accept the agreement as long as it’s approved by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Reyes is facing charges in connection with the murder of 18 year old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon and her son Owen.
Hidalgo-Calderon’s remains were found last May on the Sodus farm where she worked.
Her son’s remains were identified in October.

Win against the Blck Bears means the Muckdogs are back in the game for the League’s top dog.
After blasting his first Batavia Muckdog home run of the season on Monday Nic Ready hit two more homers to win the game against the West Virginia Black Bears Tuesday night.
Ready crushed a two-out, 3-run home run in the third and then blasted another homer allowing Batavia to cruise to an 8 to 3 victory.
The Muckdogs now 24 and 14 are back in a battle with Lowell who are 23 and 12 on the season for the best overall record in the league.
Muckdogs continue their away series to return this Friday to host Williamsport for three at home.

Governor Cuomo has signed a law making revenge porn illegal throughout New York State.
The term refers to the publication of intimate images, often of a sexual nature, that are published online without someone’s consent.
Typically such a situation results after two people that had been in a relationship break up.
Governor Cuomo says the law is needed to make sure the legal system keeps pace with technology, and the way abusers harass victims.

As of yesterday, the bridge on Searls Road between North Byron Road and Tower Hill Road in Byron has been reopened, the GC Highway Department announced yesterday afternoon after it had been closed for replacement.
