The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for most of Western New York, including Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties.
The weather service says showers and thunderstorms today will produce localized heavy rainfall. While most areas will pick up an average of a half inch of rain…some sites will receive one to two inches in under an hours’ time. There is also the risk that some of the stronger thunderstorms could produce wind gusts in excess of 40 mph.
The threat of bad weather has caused the YMCA to cancel the Summer Rec program at all city parks for today.
This affects summer rec programs at Farrall, John Kennedy, Lambert, and Williams parks, The YM expects to re-open tomorrow.
The statewide shortage of referees at youth and high school levels is a problem that has only grown worse since the pandemic started. Both the state and Section V are making pushes this summer to hire -as well as keep – more officials. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association says all school sports, regardless of level, are impacted.
A Livingston County man is facing a felony charge after being arrested for shooting and killing a dog. Deputies arrived at a home in West Sparta last month after getting a report that a dog had been shot. They later found that the 11-year-old pit bull was killed by 56-year-old Edward Carswell. He told investigators that he shot the dog because of its aggressive past.
The second edition of a cereal featuring Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will be available this Fall. It can be purchased at Tops and Wegmans stores around the region and also online at plbse.com. All proceeds are going to once again benefit the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. Since Allen wears number 17 on the field, each box will have a QR code that allows fans to make a $17 donation. Allen says having his own cereal is surreal and humbling experience
