Batavia Fire Department to Flush Hydrants June 16–18; Water Discoloration Possible
The City of Batavia Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants this week—Monday through Wednesday, June 16th to 18th—from about 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Crews will be working in the area north of West Main Street and west of Jackson Street.
Nearby homes and businesses may notice temporary water discoloration during this time. Residents are advised not to do laundry if water appears discolored. If discoloration does occur, running cold water for about five minutes should help clear it up.
This annual maintenance is key to preserving the city’s Class III public protection rating with the Insurance Services Office, ensuring hydrants work properly for firefighting. It also helps identify weak spots in the water system and flush out sediment.
Anyone with questions, or who sees a hydrant in need of repair, can call the Fire Department at 585-345-6375.
