Batavia police are releasing new details about the violent March 23rd crash at Oak and Main — a wreck that involved 10 vehicles and ended with a car engulfed in flames.
Investigators say 36-year-old Christopher Parker was heading east on Main Street around 7:41 a.m. at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and slammed into a northbound vehicle entering the intersection. That initial impact triggered a chain reaction — with multiple vehicles struck, spun, and pushed into one another across both directions of traffic.
Police say Parker’s Infiniti then hit several more stopped vehicles before catching fire.
Bystanders — including workers from a nearby tire shop — rushed in with fire extinguishers and helped pull Parker from the burning car before first responders arrived.
He was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Charges are expected.
Two other drivers — a 37-year-old woman and a 67-year-old woman — were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing the Infiniti speeding through the city moments before the crash — some estimating speeds near 70 miles per hour.
Police credit both first responders and civilians for quick action that likely saved Parker’s life. The investigation remains ongoing.
