PETA WANTS JELL-O MUSEUM TO INSTALL ANIMAL MEMORIAL
The animal rights group PETA is asking the Jell-O Museum in Le Roy to install a five-foot-tall tombstone memorial honoring animals used in the gelatin-making process.
PETA says the display would recognize pigs and cows whose bones and hides are used to make gelatin products. The organization even offered to pay for the monument and donate vegan Jell-O products to local schools or charities.
But the Jell-O Museum and Le Roy Historical Society say they will not be honoring the request.
Museum officials say their mission is to preserve and educate the public on the history of Jell-O — not take a stance on animal agriculture.
Local agriculture advocates also pushed back, saying gelatin production uses leftover parts from animals already processed for meat, calling it a sustainable practice that avoids waste.
The debate has sparked strong reactions in a community with deep agricultural roots.
MADISONATION GOLF OUTING RETURNS FOR 15TH YEAR
What started as a father’s response to his young daughter’s cancer diagnosis has grown into a major local fundraiser.
The Madisonation Annual Golf Outing, founded by Kevin Muckle after his daughter Madison battled leukemia, has now raised more than 102-thousand dollars for childhood cancer causes and local families.
Madison, now 18 years old, was declared cancer-free in 2018 after years of treatment.
This year’s 15th annual outing is scheduled for July 25th at Le Roy Country Club.
Proceeds will benefit 26 Shirts and Meaghan Suhr’s Christmas for Kids with Cancer program.
Organizers are currently looking for sponsors, raffle donations, and teams to participate.
PERSON KILLED AFTER BEING HIT BY PLANE IN DENVER
A person who entered a runway at Denver International Airport was struck and killed Friday night by a departing Frontier Airlines plane.
Airport officials say the individual climbed over a perimeter fence and ran onto the runway moments before being hit during takeoff.
The collision caused damage to the aircraft and sparked an engine fire, forcing the pilots to abort takeoff and evacuate passengers on the runway using emergency slides.
More than 220 passengers and crew were on board the flight headed to Los Angeles.
Officials say 12 passengers suffered minor injuries during the evacuation, with five taken to hospitals.
Audio from air traffic control captured the pilot reporting, “We just hit somebody,” before calling for an emergency evacuation.
Federal investigators are now looking into the incident, while airport officials say the person was not an employee and had breached airport security just minutes earlier.

In softball, Pembroke stormed back from down four runs in the seventh inning to stun Kendall 9-8, capped by a go-ahead two-run single from Diem Laney.

A Byron-Bergen senior has earned top honors from the New York Farm Bureau.

Kuipers plans to attend SUNY Cobleskill to study agricultural power machinery and pursue a career in diesel technology.

IRAN THREATENS U.S. BASES AS CEASEFIRE HOLDS
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is warning that any new attacks on its oil tankers or commercial ships would trigger what it calls a “heavy assault” on U.S. bases and vessels in the region.
The threat comes just days after the U.S. military struck two Iranian tankers it says were attempting to break through an American blockade near the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the escalating rhetoric, a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States still appears to be holding.
Meanwhile, Bahrain — home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet — says it has arrested more than 40 people allegedly tied to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
International efforts to negotiate a broader peace agreement continue, with the U.S., Russia, Britain, and other nations pushing for a deal that would reopen the vital shipping route and reduce tensions in the region.
