BATAVIA POLICE REPORT MULTIPLE ARRESTS

Batavia Police are reporting several arrests, including 27-year-old Zachary Kyle of Batavia, who is charged with second-degree assault, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after allegedly punching someone and entering a restricted area at Chipotle.
Nathan Bowes of Attica faces felony DWI due to a prior conviction, while Jagger Owens of Batavia and Jared Yoder of Oswego were charged with DWI in separate traffic stops.
Timothy Peck of Batavia is accused of failing to register an email address as a Level One sex offender. Louis Szabo of Batavia, along with Aiyana Masterson of Hemlock and David Hawk of Batavia, face separate drug possession charges.
Craig Schrutt of East Amherst is charged with criminal contempt, while Tyler Price of Batavia faces criminal mischief.
At Darien Lake, Alberto Reyes of Buffalo is accused of punching and biting someone during a concert, while Haileigh Boyden of Fulton faces two harassment charges following an alleged confrontation with security.
All charges are allegations.

BYRON-BERGEN WELCOMES NEW TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR

Byron-Bergen Central School has a new transportation director overseeing the district’s buses and student transportation this school year.
Aimee Louk joined the district in August, bringing more than 15 years of experience in school transportation. She previously worked with Ontario Bus Company and Victor Central Schools after beginning her career as a bus monitor in 2010 and later becoming a driver.
Louk is also a certified 19-A examiner and school bus driving instructor. That allows Byron-Bergen to conduct required training and certification work for drivers and monitors within the district instead of sending employees to outside facilities.
Superintendent Pat McGee says Louk has already become a valuable addition, highlighting her emphasis on student safety and professional experience.
Louk says her love of working with children originally brought her into school transportation, and she is looking forward to getting to know Byron-Bergen students.

GENESEE COUNTY RECOGNIZES SHERIFFS’ WEEK

The Genesee County Legislature is recognizing this week as Sheriffs’ Week, honoring the work of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
The local Sheriff’s Office dates back to 1802 and continues its traditional responsibilities of law enforcement, corrections and court-related services.
Today, the department also includes emergency communications, investigations, animal control, Genesee Justice and the Justice for Children Advocacy Center.
Sheriff Joseph Graff thanked the Legislature for the proclamation and recognized members of his office for their continued service and dedication to the community.

CNN, MS NOW AND POLITICO SUE OVER WHITE HOUSE ACCESS

CNN, MS NOW and Politico are suing the Trump administration after their reporters were denied access to the White House over the weekend.
The three news organizations say their journalists had White House credentials deactivated after President Donald Trump announced Friday that he was barring the outlets over reporting he characterized as “fake news.”
The lawsuit argues the administration violated the First Amendment by excluding journalists based on the content of their reporting.
Vice President JD Vance says the organizations have not been prevented from reporting on the administration, but have lost what he called their “special access” to the White House.
The White House Correspondents’ Association is calling for the reporters’ access to be restored.

ICE OFFICER SHOOTS MAN DURING AUSTIN ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

A federal immigration officer shot and seriously wounded a man during an enforcement operation in Austin, Texas Sunday.
Authorities say 28-year-old Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a Venezuelan national, was shot once in the torso following a traffic stop. Austin Police say their officers were not involved in either the federal operation or the shooting.
The Department of Homeland Security says Perez is now in federal custody and had a final removal order. His attorney has disputed that account, while saying she was uncertain of his current immigration status.
The shooting drew about 100 protesters to the scene. Austin officials are calling for local authorities to participate in the investigation, which is being led by Homeland Security Investigations with assistance from the FBI.

GENESEE COUNTY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP

In Genesee County high school girls volleyball action Monday night, Le Roy picked up a 3-1 victory over Churchville-Chili, while Cal-Mum outlasted Alexander in five sets, 3-2.
Pembroke earned a straight-set victory over Akron, 3-0.
Batavia also picked up a win, defeating Bishop Kearney 3-0 by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21.
Lilly Gray led the Blue Devils with 10 kills and eight digs. Paityn Pietrzykowski added eight kills and two aces, while Karizma Wescott finished with five kills and two aces.
Violet Lopez recorded 22 assists, Mollie Banford had eight digs, and Meg Gahagan and Neava Thomas each added four kills.
