City Councilwoman calls for response to violence brewing in Batavia.
Batavia’s Ward 5 Councilwoman Kathy Briggs says her constituents have been continually calling her reporting of violence and suspicious drug activity in the City’s south side.
She has been in contact with police and following last week’s fatal stabbing on Central Ave, Briggs decided to organize a ward meeting with law enforcement to address the growing concern.
Police Chef Shawn Heubusch was apparently eager to hold a meeting himself and hopes to empower south side city residents to take back their community…

According to Police the tensions have been high in the Central Avenue neighborhood for a while with bad blood between two apparent groups.
Councilwoman Briggs and Batavia Police will hold a meeting next Thursday night at St. Anthony’s Community center on Liberty Street.
This week three people were indicted by a Grand Jury in connection with last week’s fatal stabbing and shooting.

LeRoy Man arrested for Assault in Pavilion.
Deputies arrested 36 year old David Howard of Wolcott Street LeRoy following investigation into an alleged assault at the Clover Leaf pub on Telephone Road in Pavilion.
Howard was accused of shoving another patron to the ground causing a head and elbow injury.
Wolcott was charged with Assault and issued an appearance ticket for June 5th in Pavilion Town Court.

Deputies make drugged driving arrest after crash in Elba.
23 year old James Edwards of Upper Holley Road Holley was arrested following a single car crash on Lockport Road in Elba Wednesday Afternoon.
The crash occurred after Edwards apparently lost control of his vehicle driving off of the roadway into a ditch.
Edwards had three other passengers one of which sustained a minor injury.
He was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle impaired by Drugs, Unlawful Pot Possession and vehicle and traffic infractions.
He was released with an appearance ticket for August 8th in Elba Town Court.

Increasing enforcement on impaired drivers begins today.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Batavia and LeRoy Police Departments will begin enforcement in the statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown effort today and will end on Tuesday May 29th.
Governor Cuomo is also suspending road and bridge construction projects on New York highways throughout the Memorial Day weekend to help ease congestion on one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.

For the first time, both major parties nominated African-American candidates to run for attorney general of New York.
Yesterday in New York City, Republicans nominated Manhattan attorney and Buffalo native Keith Wofford.
On Long Island, Democrats nominated New York City lawyer Letitia James.
They’re going to face off in November to try to replace Eric Schneiderman after he resigned amid abuse allegations by several women.
