Byron-Bergen senior commended in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program

Bergen, NY – Byron-Bergen High School Principal, Pat McGee, has officially announced that Siomara Caballero has been named a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Caballero received a Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, along with a personal congratulations from Principal McGee.

“Siomara is an exceptional student,” said McGee. “Placing in the top 3% out of 1.5 million students is an amazing accomplishment and a reflection of her hard work and dedication. We are all very proud of her.”

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

In addition to being named a Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program, Caballero was recognized by the College Board as a National Hispanic Scholar, which means that she scored within the top 2% of all Hispanic students in the nation on the PSAT.

Outside of the classroom, Caballero is a member of the Math League, Cross-Country team, Track and Field team, Varsity Basketball team, PageTurners, National Honor Society, and Spanish Club.

“I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do after graduation, but I’m definitely going to college to study math or physics,” said Caballero. “Thanks to all my teachers and family for helping me in my academic pursuits.”
