City of Batavia Fire Department: Kitchen Fire at New Hawaiian Grill

At approximately 11:55pm on September 23, 2019 the City of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched a general fire alarm at 1 Batavia City Centre. First arriving fire units were on-scene at approximately 11:58 pm.
Upon arrival, firefighters began investigating and found a working kitchen fire inside of the Islands Hawaiian Grill Restaurant, located at 60 Main Street.
Responding crews found an actively operating sprinkler system which helped to contain the fire while responding crews attacked the fire using a stretch hose line. While the fire was contained to the kitchen area, the restaurant experienced smoke and water damage.
At this time the City of Batavia’s Fire Investigation team is investigating the fire to determine the origin and cause. Once a determination has been made, we will be providing an additional media release with further information.
City Fire was assisted at the scene by the City of Batavia Police, Water and Code Departments with additional support provided by Genesee County Emergency Dispatch.
