GCC Athletics Update: Athletes of the Week

Tylasia Weaver (L – women’s basketball) and Hiago Barros de Souza (R – men’s soccer) were named Genesee Athletes of the Week for the Week of November 4

BATAVIA, NY… Midfielder Hiago Barros de Souza from men’s soccer and Guard/Forward Tylasia Weaver from women’s basketball were named Genesee Athletes of the Week for the week of November 4.
Hiago Barros de Souza scored one goal in the NJCAA Region III semifinals against Jamestown Community College and then tallied three goals in Genesee’s 4-0 shutout over Mohawk Valley Community College in the NJCAA Region III District B Championship game. Hiago leads the country in both goals (34) and points (82).
Tylasia Weaver recorded a double-double in Genesee’s first two games of the season, both victories over Corning Community College and SUNY Broome. The sophomore guard from Rochester, NY scored 29 points and 17 rebounds against Corning, then followed it with a 18 points and 14 rebound performance against SUNY Broome.
The nationally-ranked men’s soccer team has advanced to the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer National Championships, November 14-17 at Herkimer College.
Women’s basketball starts their 2019-2020 home schedule with a game Tuesday against Jefferson CC at 5pm before playing SUNY Ulster and Bryant & Stratton (Albany) at this weekend’s Niagara County CC Tip-Off Classic in Sanborn, NY Saturday and Sunday.
