Burgess and Cheek named Genesee Athletes of the Week
Men’s basketball player Jamir Cheek and women’s basketball player TaLia Burgess were named Genesee Athletes of the Week for the week of January 22.
Jamir Cheek had a team-high nine assists in Genesee’s game at Herkimer last week. Cheek also scored 18 points and added seven rebounds for the Cougars. He has started all 16 games so far this season for Genesee. It is the second time that Cheek has earned the honor.
TaLia Burgess has been named the Female Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. In Genesee’s last contest against the Herkimer College Generals, Burgess scored a game-high 18 points and collected 14 rebounds to record her ninth double-double of the season. Burgess is averaging a double-double with 16 points and averaging better than 10 rebounds a game.
Both basketball teams are in action on Wednesday as Genesee travels to Erie Community College. The women will play at 5:30pm and the men will play the #6 ranked Kats at 7:30pm. Genesee’s first home game of the spring semester will be on Saturday with a doubleheader against Monroe Community College starting at 1pm. The game will be streamed live on www.geneseeathletics.com
