Genesee Women’s Lacrosse Signs Lauren Diegert to Letter Of Intent

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Community College women’s lacrosse program added incoming freshman Lauren Diegert as Diegert signed her Letter of Intent. The Churchville-Chili graduate was greeted on her signing day by three of Genesee’s current lacrosse players, Olivia Clingerman, Hannah Kirisits, and Jenny Yuhnke.

“We’re excited to welcome Lauren to the team. Not only is she a good player, but she also fits right in with the girls”, stated Genesee Head Coach Jeff Reyngoudt. Lauren played lacrosse all throughout high school but, she also ran track in 2017. Her main events were the 300M and the 55M. Lauren played many different positions at Churchville-Chili, but for her senior season she mostly played attack. Lauren will be pursuing a Fashion Design major here at Genesee.

Olivia Clingerman, Hannah Kirisits, and Jenny Yuhnke will all be returning for the next season in 2020. All three had a great year with the cougars and are looking forward to an even better one this coming year. Olivia was one of the strongest defenders for GCC this past season and was also a freshman captain. She started every game and had one goal, one assist, and 26 ground balls. Clingerman was awarded All-Conference and All-Tournament team during Regionals. Hannah, another captain, had an exceptional season as a midfielder for Genesee. She started every game and finished the season with 33 goals, 12 assists, 27 ground balls, and 28 draw controls. Kirisits was named All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American. Hannah is the first ever All-American in the history of Genesee Women’s Lacrosse. Although Jenny was new to the sport this season, she showed potential right away and started every game. Yuhnke played attack and midfield, and ended the season with 2 goals, 4 assists, and 14 ground balls.

“We finally have a competitive lacrosse program at Genesee and we’re really looking forward to the 2020 season. We have a strong sophomore class coming back and some really enthusiastic freshman” says Assistant Coach Macy Reyngoudt.

Other returning sophomores are recently named All-Conference Riley Marconi, Mackenzie O’Brien, Diante Scheepers, Madison Hammond, and Autumn Ressue. The cougars did not graduate any of their defenders and still have a strong attacking player with Riley Marconi, who started every game, had 11 goals, 4 assists, 20 ground balls, and 8 draw controls.

The Genesee Cougars finished their season 6-5 and were ranked third in the region. If you are interested in trying out for the upcoming season, please email Jeff Reyngoudt at jcreyngoudt@genesee.edu.
