The investigation took seven years, but a Batavia man is now behind bars charged with sexually abusing children since 2014.
40-year-old Melvin A. Huntley of Wilkonson Road, is charged with four felony counts of sexual abuse against a child, first degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse.
According to Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies the abuse against one of the children began in September of 2014. The abuse allegedly continued against one or more children over an extended period of time.
Huntley is in jail without bail.
Deputies say more charges are expected.
A domestic dispute on Hutchins Place lands a city man in jail. 40-year-old Michael Jackson is charged with assault, strangulation and unlawful imprisonment. Jackson was found by police in the Town of Greece.
He’s behind bars without bail for now.
Once again, Batavia drivers are having to pay more money to keep their vehicles running. According to Triple A, the average cost for a gallon of regular is now $3.16 a gallon. That’s 3-cents from last week, 12-cents in the last month and is 94-cents more than this time last year.
While New York state has made significant strides in managing the coronavirus, there has been a recent uptick. The statewide 7-day average positivity rate has climbed to 0.84%. However, hospitalizations, now at 339, continue to decease. 65% of New Yorkers age 18 and older have complete the vaccine series.
Three members of the New York State Assembly are criticizing a plan to open several Chick-fil-A restaurants at rest stops along the Thruway.
The three, who are openly gay, say the company has opposed the rights of LGBTQ individuals.
In a statement, the fast-food chain said it doesn’t have a political or social agenda and that everyone is welcome at their restaurants.
