LE ROY MANUFACTURER SEEKS GCEDC ASSISTANCE FOR EXPANSION

A Le Roy manufacturer is planning another expansion. Rochester Davis-Fetch Corporation has applied to the Genesee County Economic Development Center for assistance with a $1.2 million project to build a new 16,500-square-foot facility on Lent Avenue.
The proposal marks the company’s third investment in the village since 2024, following a renovation and expansion that created more jobs than originally promised. The new project is expected to generate more than $616,000 in local economic benefits and an estimated three dollars in community benefit for every dollar of incentives requested.
The company is seeking sales tax exemptions and a 10-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement. The GCEDC Board of Directors will consider an initial resolution at its meeting Thursday afternoon. If approved to move forward, a public hearing on the project will be held in the Village of Le Roy.

 

BASOM WOMAN CHARGED AFTER CRASH THAT CRITICALLY INJURED CHILD

A Basom woman is facing multiple felony charges following a Genesee County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a December crash that critically injured a child.
Twenty-three-year-old Joilee John was arrested July 31 and charged with aggravated vehicular assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of aggravated DWI for allegedly having two children in the vehicle, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Deputies say John lost control of her SUV on Bloomingdale Road on December 18, causing it to leave the roadway and strike a tree. Investigators say John and one child were ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries, while a second child remained inside and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
John was arraigned and sent to the Genesee County Jail with bail set at $2,500. The investigation involved the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit, New York State Police, the Town of Alabama Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Child Protective Services and the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office.

 

68TH ANNUAL ATTICA RODEO OPENS TONIGHT

One of Western New York’s biggest summer traditions gets underway tonight as the 68th Annual Attica Rodeo opens in Attica.
The four-night event runs through Sunday and features professional rodeo competition, including bull riding, barrel racing, bronc riding and more. Organizers say the Attica Rodeo is dedicated to promoting horsemanship, equine education and family-friendly entertainment.
The not-for-profit event is operated entirely by volunteers, with proceeds reinvested into the rodeo grounds and donated back to the community. The Attica Rodeo has also been voted the number-one rodeo by the American Professional Rodeo Association’s cowboys and cowgirls. Tickets are available online or at the gate.

 

 

LIVE MUSIC IN OAKFIELD TONIGHT

Looking for something to do this evening? Head to Triangle Park in Oakfield for a free outdoor concert featuring the award-winning Celtic rock group Tom Keefer and Celtic Cross.
The family-friendly performance runs from 6 until 8 p.m. and is presented by the Haxton Memorial Library. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of live music from the kilt-wearing cultural ambassadors known for their energetic blend of traditional Celtic music and rock. The event is open to the public.

 

NEIL ARMSTRONG’S BOYHOOD HOME HITS THE MARKET

The boyhood home of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, is on the market for the first time in nearly 40 years.
The home in Wapakoneta, Ohio, has been owned since 1988 by retired history teacher Karen Mikesell, who preserved many of its original features. Armstrong spent his teenage years there building model airplanes, testing them in a homemade wind tunnel and preparing for the flying career that eventually led him to the moon.
Over the years, the home has welcomed visits from several astronauts, including Buzz Aldrin, and contains photos and memorabilia celebrating Armstrong’s legacy. Listed at $430,000, Mikesell hopes the next owner will preserve the home’s historical significance, whether it remains a private residence or becomes a destination for visitors interested in the Apollo 11 astronaut’s early life.

 

 

TRUMP CAMPAIGNS IN NEVADA AS MICHIGAN SENATE RACE TAKES SHAPE

President Donald Trump campaigned in Nevada Wednesday, promoting his handling of the economy ahead of November’s midterm elections while defending his trade and economic policies amid high interest rates, elevated gas prices and a tight housing market. During the event, Trump sharply criticized Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, calling him too extreme for office and predicting Republican Mike Rogers will win in November.
Earlier in the day, El-Sayed narrowly secured the Democratic nomination, defeating Congresswoman Haley Stevens by fewer than 15,000 votes out of more than one-and-a-half million ballots cast. The closely watched Michigan Senate race is expected to be one of the most competitive contests in the country this fall.

 

 

 

BAILEY J STAYS PERFECT IN NEW YORK SIRE STAKES AT BATAVIA DOWNS

The New York Sire Stakes returned to Batavia Downs Wednesday night, with Bailey J continuing his impressive season in the featured $110,200 event for two-year-old trotters.
Driven by Jason Bartlett, Bailey J rallied in the stretch to win in 1:58.3, earning his latest Sire Stakes victory for trainer Noel Daley. The evening also featured two Excelsior Series races, won by Betelgeusebluechip and Telling Tall Tales.
In the local feature, Elegant Woman A captured her second straight Open Handicap Pace for fillies and mares with Drew Monti in the bike. Monti also recorded three driving victories on the night. Live harness racing returns to Batavia Downs Saturday evening with a 5 o’clock post time.
