BATAVIA POLICE REPORT MULTIPLE ARRESTS

Batavia Police and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office report a number of recent arrests across the city and surrounding areas.
Among them, Lindsay Goins is accused of menacing with a knife on Mill Street, while Steven J. Godinho faces burglary and contempt charges for allegedly violating an order of protection.
Police also report multiple harassment and assault-related cases, involving individuals like Heriberto Benitez, Jeremiah T. Jones, and Brian E. Daggar, tied to altercations across the city.
Drug-related charges were filed against Zachary W. Williams and Joanna M. Coates, while Matthew E. Draper is accused of possessing stolen property.
Additional arrests include James J. Boyce on burglary charges and Carl E. Russo, who faces multiple felony charges including strangulation.
Most individuals were released on appearance tickets, while others were held for arraignment or are due back in court.

PAVILION HALL OF FAME CLASS ANNOUNCED

The Pavilion Central School Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2026, with three inductees set to be honored later this month.
Michael Bunce, a 1964 graduate, built a 37-year career with Dresser-Rand after serving in Vietnam.
Colonel John C. Powers, a 1963 graduate, served more than two decades in the United States Marine Corps, earning multiple honors during and after the Vietnam War.
And Jane Lindquist Lesniewski, a 1993 graduate, has built a career in counseling and higher education, with a focus on mental health and community service.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 15 at the high school auditorium, and the public is invited to attend.

MAN SHOT BY SECRET SERVICE NEAR WHITE HOUSE

A man armed with a gun was shot by Secret Service agents Monday afternoon near the Washington Monument after opening fire on officers.
Officials say plainclothes agents first spotted the suspect around 3:30 p.m. near the White House complex and noticed what appeared to be a weapon. When uniformed officers approached, the man tried to flee and then fired shots, prompting agents to return fire.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, though his condition has not been released.
A minor was also struck during the incident but is expected to be okay. Investigators believe the bystander may have been hit by the suspect’s gunfire.
The White House was briefly locked down as a precaution while emergency crews responded. President Donald Trump was inside at the time and continued his event without interruption.
D.C. police are now leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

LOCAL SOFTBALL SCORES

Elba picked up a signature win Monday, shutting out Pembroke 5-0 behind a complete game from Brea Smith.
Lauryn Hawkins led the offense, going 4-for-4, while Brooklyn Jachimowicz added three hits, including a triple, as the Lancers improved to 7-3.
Oakfield-Alabama stayed unbeaten with a dominant 23-2 win over Kendall, powered by Raine Denny’s four-hit day and a strong outing in the circle from Savannah Durham.
Elsewhere, Le Roy topped York-Pavilion 8-4, and Honeoye Falls-Lima shut out Batavia 5-0.
