Chicken Gets Loose on Christmas
Video News Service reports, that on Christmas morning a chicken got loose in Batavia and spread havoc on the streets.
Around 10 am, the Batavia Police Department received a call from the owner of the chicken, saying that it was loose and running around in the area of North Lyon Street. Multiple things remain unclear at this time including, why did the chicken cross the road, was this chicken someone’s intended Christmas dinner with the rising costs of turkey, did this chicken sneak on to Santa’s sleigh from another city and accidentally get lost in Batavia, and was the chicken armed and dangerous?
While there are currently no answers to these questions, it’s reasonably safe to assume that Batavians are safe from Chester the Chicken.
Genesee County Airport Selected for 2026 World Aerobatic Championship
The selection committee for the World Aerobatic Championship selected the Genesee County Airport in Batavia as the site to host its 2026 championship.
The championship will kick off with the opening ceremony on August 22nd, and the contest will occur from August 22nd to 31st. The International Aerobatic Club said several factors played into their selection including several hotels within 2 miles of the airport, four potential practice airports nearby in Bethany, Geneseo, Le Roy, and Perry-Warsaw, and favorable weather historically during the selected week with an average temperature of 70 degrees and wind speed of 7 MPH.
The International Aerobatic Club said, “The airport has been a proven location of the Wings Over Batavia Airshow for the last two years. KGVQ is a non-towered airfield surrounded by mostly farmland, and there are four hangars available for use with a total of 20,800 square feet to hangar aircraft, provide office space and a hospitality area.”
Pete Arras Memorial Basketball Tournament Set to Tip Off This Weekend
The Annual Batavia Lions Club Pete Arras Memorial Basketball Tournament is set to tip off this weekend at Genesee Community College.
On Friday, the tournament will start with a large school matchup between Roy-Hart and Le Roy. At 4:45 Alexander will play Elba in a small school matchup that will be broadcast live on WBTA. Following that game, Euginia Maria de Hostas Charter School will play Notre Dame in a small school matchup. Finally, Attica will play Batavia in a large school contest. On Monday, December 30th, both the small and large school championships will be played at 6:30 and 8:15 respectively.
WBTA will bring live coverage of both championship games with Pete Zehler.
