GO Health Director Paul Pettit gave an update on how the county is doing with Covid on Friday. He gave updates on how many cases Genesee and Orleans county have been having. Pettit also talked about the Delta Variant. Pettit said that the state so far has not released guidance for schools in the fall.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren was indicted on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, and failure to secure firearms in a dwelling Friday. State Police searched her home in May after a months long drug trafficking investigation found that her husband, Timothy Granison, was allegedly part of a cocaine drug ring. Granison and 7 others are being charged in connection with that investigation. Warren was not charged with any drug related crimes. Warren’s attorney says the mayor will plead not guilty. An arraignment date is expected to be scheduled next week.
COVID Vaccines for 6 month old’s. 66 children are being used to test COVID vaccine dosages in Rochester for ages 6 months to 12 years at Rochester Clinical Research. Dr. Janet Casey says that “Kids get COVID, kids get sick from COVID, kids end up in the ICU because of COVID. Kids die because of COVID. So if it’s preventable, we should try to prevent it.” According to the CDC 335 children in the US below the age of 17 have died with COVID since February of 2020. About 75 thousand children ages 12-15 have had to have medical checkups or been hospitalized after receiving the COVID vaccines. Most of the checkups were for pain at the injection site. The CDC Stresses that although about 6000 people have died soon after receiving the vaccine there has been no link established between the vaccine itself and the deaths.
