Press Release:
Bergen, NY – Saturday, September 15, 2018 the Byron-Bergen soccer teams, all six of them, will take to the field for their annual fundraiser to benefit the Wilmont Cancer Institute. This student-driven event was started several years ago by the girls’ varsity soccer team and most recently resulted in a $1,800 donation. An amount which they hope to surpass this year.
“We’re all out in the community spreading the word so everyone can come out and support us,” said senior varsity player Lydia Campbell. “And it’s always a good cause.”
This year the JV and varsity soccer teams will wear blue for testicular cancer in support of a classmate.
“The event raises money and awareness,” said Athletic Director Richard Hannan. “And it’s just a really fun day.”
Money will be raised through donations, t-shirt and food sales, and several raffles. The event takes place at the Byron-Bergen Soccer Stadium at 6917 West Bergen Road, Bergen, NY 14416. The event is free and open to the public.
