Baseball took a backseat Monday evening as members of the Batavia Muckdogs traded their gloves for serving trays during the team’s annual Meet & Eat event at Tully’s Good Times in Batavia.
20 Muckdogs players spent two hours serving food, greeting guests and interacting with hundred of patrons who packed the restaurant between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The event has become a summertime tradition giving fans the opportunity to meet players away from Dwyer Stadium while supporting both the team and one of Batavia’s most popular local restaurants.
Players including James Quintero, Evan Brock, Jalen David, Kyle Vaughn and many of their teammates worked alongside the restaurant staff delivering meals, refilling drinks and posing for photos with fans of all ages.
For Muckdogs Head of Security Dave, the event offers something that can’t be replicated on game day.
“You get to see a side of the players that you don’t get to see at the stadium,” Dave said. “They’re more down to earth, having fun. They enjoy it and we enjoy it.”
The relaxed atmosphere allows fans to connect with players in a more personal setting creating memories that extend beyond the baseball diamond. Young fans enjoying conversations with the players, while families filled nearly every table throughout the evening.
The event also provides a significant boost for Tully’s according to restaurant manager Canaro Fields.
“It brings a lot of people here,” Fields said. It brings in a lot of revenue. As I look around, people are happy, people are walking in knowing you guys are here so its good for the business. It just makes everybody be in a nice, happy state of mind.”
While Fields’ work schedule often prevents him from attending Muckdogs games, his family has become regular supporters of the club.
“I don’t often go, because I’m here a lot,” Fields said with a laugh. “But my son goes to every game.”
Fields added that Tully’s is already one of Batavia’s busiest restaurants on Monday evenings, but the Meet & Eat event creates an even more festive environment.
“I just pulled the numbers as a normal Monday,” Fields said. “It’s a little busier than we normally get, but for the most part, this is about average.”
Events like the annual Meet & Eat showcase the Muckdogs’ commitment to the Batavia community, giving players the opportunity to connect with fans beyond the ballpark and strengthen the bond between the organization and its supporters.
For one evening, the focus was on community and giving back, making the annual tradition another winning experience for everyone involved.
