Blizzard Conditions Cause Variety of Road Incidents on Thursday

Genesee County saw over 2 feet of snow and whiteout conditions on Thursday and it led to a variety of accidents on the roadways.

Video News Service reports that in Stafford, a tractor-trailer and a sedan got in an accident on Route 237 around 6:30 a.m. The female driver of the sedan requested a medical evaluation, while the truck driver was uninjured. In Alabama, a vehicle rolled over on Route 63 around 6:30 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries occurred in the scary accident. In Le Roy, a tractor-trailer jack-knifed on Route 19 around 7 a.m. The road was forced to close for around an hour while crews freed the semi.

In Alexander, Pavilion, Attica, and East Bethany several roads were closed throughout the day as tractor-trailers became stranded.

GCC Announces a New Scholarship for Pavilion Graduates

Genesee Community College announced, that they are establishing the Lucy and Otis Leach Endowed Scholarship for Pavilion High School Graduates.

The scholarship was made possible through a $100,000 endowment created by Edward and Otis Leach. It is named in honor of Edward and Otis’s parents, who, despite not being able to attend school beyond the elementary level, were big believers in all levels of education. The scholarship funds may be used for tuition, course materials, fees, residence, and other costs associated with student success. Students who demonstrate a financial need will be given preference.

Dr. Craig Lamb, President of Genesee Community College, said, “We are immensely grateful for the generosity of Edward and Otis Leach. This endowment will make a significant impact on the lives of students from Pavilion High School, enabling them to pursue their educational dreams at Genesee Community College.”

In light of the recent developments surrounding the Syrian government, the Genesee County Democratic Committee has expressed its concern and commitment to supporting the people of Syria.

Recently, the people of Syria have begun to fight back against the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad to try and create a brighter future for their country. The Genesee County Democratic Committee calls on our leaders to embrace a principled foreign policy that prioritizes the values of freedom and human rights.
